I ve left my invitation to read Best Canadian Stories unanswered for too long I feel fortunate that I started in this year before John Metcalf has left the building Besides the stories, which were good, and which picked up steam towards the end, I appreciated Metcalfs introduction I ve read his rants before and I appreciate his bravery to pick winners and losers and not worry about hurting feelings The intro also provided a great summary of the collection to this point including listing some of those he considers to be best of the best Leon Rooke, Keath Fraser, Clark Blaise, Terry Griggs, Steve Heighton , Caroline Adderson, Alison Munro, Annabel Lyon, Linda Svendsen, Mavis Gallant, Dianne Schomperlen, Lynn Coady, Alex MacLeod, Douglas Glover, Norman Levine, Kathleen Winter, Isabel Huggan, Russel Smith, and Mark Anthony Jarman I may have missed a name or two but that s a great reading list right there
