I would have loved to have given this book five stars but the now chapters were disproportionate to the historical chapters, there were too many and they were much too long I much preferred the history of Diane and her story, as you will see in my full review, below. My simple words cannot explain the feeling after reading this story I call it a story because it was than just a book I was so glad I took the time to savour this book and I recommend you do the sameyou will not be disappointed Mary Ellen Taylor s characters are so relatable that they feel like family and you find yourself anxiously turning pages to see how they fare The author has a great sense of what love does to a person from feeling none, to developing a deep love, how it makes you feel, act and the things you do either unconsciously or purposefully when it affects you I love that the author has invented an entirely believable and yet incredible story Yes, the theme has been explored and written about many times, but not quite like this lovely historical fiction version There s just enough history to whet my mind, just enough southerness to whet my travel need, and loads of love story to fill my heart. The descriptions put me right into the story, it all felt so real and kept me interestedI want to know , this book took me away to another time and place Fans of historical fiction will find themselves wrapped up in this beautifully told story Thank you NetGalley, Mary Ellen Taylor and Montlake for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an impartial review all opinions are my own. I liked this story and the cover is beautiful This books has two parallel time lines Megan who is restoring an old family hunting lodge on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and Claire who was the caretaker in the early 1900 s I m not a huge historical fan and this book seems to dwell in the past a little than I cared for We visit the Eastern Shore quite often and it was very easy to visualize the small town setting and characters This is book two in a series, book 1 was Winter Cottage and some of the characters appear It can be read as a stand alone She appears to have several series available I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I really liked this book Winter Cottage was my first Mary Ellen Taylor book and I really enjoyed it What I liked about Spring House is that while we have Megan s story, we also get to know about Lucy, Hank and Natasha Spring House is a good telling of a story within a story I really liked Megan and her struggle to deal with the death of her ex, being pregnant, and starting a new job I didn t care for Scott s mother at all I found her rude, pushy and very judgmental I liked Rick and hope we will see of him and Megan Really good book, I highly recommend it.

In order to really know ourselves, and to enjoy each day and look forward to the future, we must fully embrace the past This idea is beautifully realized in the intriguing women s fiction tale, Spring House Very special storyteller Mary Ellen Taylor brings forward the characters and story line from her previous work, Winter Cottage , and adds new faces with their own compelling circumstances Cape Hudson is a quaint old town on the beautiful Eastern Shore of Virginia, an area rich in history and its own rustic appeal Megan Buchanan is a historian working there to help restore the Winter Cottage Estate built by her own great great grandfather to its former splendor Pregnant, and grieving over the loss of her fiance, Megan hopes the work will bring back a sense of order and purpose and help hear clear the way to a happy life with her child While there is much to be done at the main house, it is the Spring House , the caretaker s cottage, which opens up an unexpected realm for Megan Through the discovery of old letters written long ago, Megan comes to know a young woman from another time, a young woman who, like Megan, has secrets to keep As each letter is read, and of the past is revealed, and Megan is drawn deeper into the connection between past and present When the final truth is told, and all questions are answered, will the families of Spring House and Winter Cottage truly be home at last For a real reader s treat, enjoy Winter Cottage first, and then quickly follow with Spring House.Book Copy Gratis Author

The follow on book from The Winter Cottage, characters reappear but the story is about Megan Buchanan, heavily pregnant, single, having walked away from her fiance 2 weeks before the wedding who is restoring Spring House for her friend Lucy Winter Cottage The story switches between the present and the past and is fascinating It moves between Cape Hudson and France with ease and you move along with the characters, actually caring about them It delights me that the acclaimed thriller writer Mary Burton can write such cosy, elegant and warm hearted books such as this I was actually sorry when I finished reading the book, I enjoyed it so much

Megan Buchanan s fiance, Scott, has recently died in a Marine helicopter accident They had broken up just weeks before he died and she s pregnant with his baby His mother is angry with her blaming her for the accident and does not believe the baby she is carrying is Scott s A longtime resident of Virginia s Eastern Shore, Megan s family goes back for many generations She has recently been hired to oversee the renovation of a historic hunting lodge named Winter Cottage that her own great great grandfather had built Megan even wrote her PhD dissertation on Winter Cottage The Cottage has recently been passed down to Lucy Kincaid Lucy had been a bartender and is now very happy to be the owner of the Cottage, and is excited about the renovations Firstly, they will renovate Spring House, then the Cottage itself Lucy has hopes of making the Cottage a wedding venue Her new boyfriend owns a local winery and is a cousin to Megan. The story delves into the history of the house and the people who resided there It switches back and forth in time as we see what happens to these people and where they end up in life In addition, we watch Megan as she immerses herself into all of the historical things she finds as they clean out the enormous amount of papers, books, and furniture in Spring House This is a nice book but the historical switching and all of the characters involved became a bit overwhelming But, I stuck with the book and I m glad I did I read the author s novel, Winter Cottage, and found that one to be a bit better than this one.Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Some books thrill you, some books provoke you, and some books charm you Spring House by Mary Ellen Taylor is in that last category It was a lovely story about Megan Buchanan who is hired to restore a house owned by her ancestors During the renovation, she discovers letters and objects that belong to Claire Hedrick In the early 1900s, Claire was separated from her three sisters and three brothers after their mother passed away and their father could not take care of the seven children Claire lived with the LeBlanc family and eventually moved to France where she was no longer heard from The letters reveal the story of her life and the connection between her and Megan. This book offers a beautiful story that brings together generations It is a pleasure to read and is perfect for a Summer read Thank you, Thomas Allen Sons for sending me a final copy of this lovely book Spring House by Mary Ellen Taylor is now available at your favourite bookstore dogsandbooks poodles poodlesofinstagram furbabies dogsofinstagram poodletoday pawsandbooks petsandbooks poodlesandbooks bookstagram bookstagrammer book books booklover bookish bookdragon bookaholic reading readersofinstagram instaread ilovebooks bookaddicted bookishcanadians canadianbookstagram springhouse maryellentaylor bookreview bookpublicationday bookstafolk

Pregnant and still grieving the death of her fiance, historian Megan Buchanan is helping to restore Spring House to it s former glory and hopefully bring in some much needed tourist revenue to Cape Hudson, a town rich in southern history Let me first say that this story had WAY too many characters I spent than half of the book confused trying to keep up with who everyone was and how they related to each other The story was good, and I found the historical part of the story fascinating I just wish the vast number of people mentioned in the book hadn t detracted from my enjoyment of it.
